PHNOM PENH, Cambodia — A shareholder in YY Capital Partners Co., Ltd. has formally appealed to Cambodia’s Ministry of Justice to intervene in a dispute with the company’s chairman, Yamada Taihei, alleging serious financial misconduct and breaches of trust.
The investor claims he was defrauded and financially harmed through improper business practices orchestrated by Yamada, a Japanese national leading the company’s board. In letters sent to Cambodian authorities, the investor requested support to ensure a fair and thorough investigation.
According to the letters, multiple real estate transactions in Cambodia were manipulated with inflated purchase prices, with preliminary assessments suggesting that around $4 million may have been misappropriated for personal gain and the benefit of others. Allegations also include fabricated loan agreements totaling more than $7 million, document forgery, and large-scale cash diversions through shell companies linked to Yamada and his associates. Some of the funds were reportedly transferred to an overseas account under the name of Yamada’s wife, Ye Jun.
The investor also alleges that Yamada established shell companies in Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and Cambodia using nominees, while maintaining direct control over the bank accounts and financial operations of those entities.
Within Cambodia, prosecutors have reportedly filed charges in at least two criminal cases involving Yamada and others. Court orders have frozen certain assets and bank accounts, and investigations are said to be ongoing. Authorities in other jurisdictions—including China, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the United States—are also examining allegations ranging from embezzlement and document forgery to money laundering and breach of trust.
The shareholder urged Cambodian authorities to act decisively to prevent suspects from interfering with the investigation, intimidating witnesses, or destroying evidence.
The case remains under investigation, and Cambodian officials have not yet issued an official statement.
